fan belts squealing VW golf diesel?
How to stop the squealing? VW dealership says they cannot fix it, it is just some moisture. Happens on startup and the initial few left and right turns. After it all warms up the belts don’t scream at me anymore.
I tried some spray from Canadian Tire and the belts blew up after a few kilometres -yeah, then they were quiet! So “belt dressing spray” is a bad answer. Cost 240$ to get new belts. But they squeal too.
From what you have described I would begin looking at the alignment of the pullies.
All of the pullies are supposed to be in the same plane. If they are off even by a 1/16″ the belts will “polish” that pully and make it squeel after wearing the pully. The likely pullies that would be out of alignment will be the alternator, the A/C compressor pully, power steering pump pully and the idler pully. The most common one is the idler pully. But you have mentioned the squeeling occurs during left and right turns. I would look at the power steering pump alignment first and with a proper tensioning tool set the belt tension.
If the dearlership cannot find a simple problem like this there is something seriously wrong at that dealership. I would go to another dealer and ask for the regional service assistant to be present when you bring in the car. Then explain the problem to him and the have the dealer fix whatever the problem is under his direction.
I would also ask for reimbursment for the previous monies spent at the other dealership as they didn’t do the job you paid for.
